Grants to New York City community-based organizations to improve educational outcomes in local schools. Funding is intended to enhance student achievement, increase graduation rates, and promote equitable outcomes for vulnerable populations in elementary school through high school. The Community Schools model has an integrated focus on academics, physical and mental health services, social services, expanded learning opportunities, positive youth development, and family and community supports.
Through collaborative planning, strategic resource allocation, and community-based partnerships, Community Schools create welcoming supportive environments that help students navigate barriers and build on strengths so that every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. In New York City, the Community School Strategy has been proven to be effective in increasing graduation rates and student achievement and in reducing chronic absenteeism and disciplinary incidents.
