Grant Description
Opportunity for New York City teenagers and young adults to participate in career-exploration and employment activities. The program provides youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with opportunities to gain work experience in a range of industries and earn an income during the summer months. The goal of the funding program is to help ensure that New York City youth are better prepared for careers of the future.

Participants receive the opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in learning experiences that help to develop their social, civic and leadership skills.

SYEP will give youth a unique opportunity to explore their interest and discover new ones through:

  • Career Exploration: Flex your research skills and discover new career possibilities.
  • Project-Based Learning: NYC Teens aged 14—15 learn about career opportunities and make a difference in their communities through paid project-based activities
  • Work Experiences: Young people aged 16–24 improve their work readiness skills and explore career pathways through paid summer jobs in a variety of industries throughout NYC
  • Community Building: Our democracy needs your voice. Learn valuable skills to become an active citizen at work and in your community.
  • Earn Money: Get paid to participate

SYEP Pride gives LGBTQ+ youth ages 14-24 a unique opportunity to explore their career interest and gain job experience in a supportive environment. Participants will be able to take part in trainings and special events that inspire, educate, and open doors to networking opportunities gives LGBTQ+ youth ages 14-24 a unique opportunity to explore their career interest and gain job experience in a supportive environment. Additional Eligibility Criteria
Who is eligible:
- Young people age 14 to 24
- A resident of one of the five boroughs of New York City
- Legally allowed to work in New York City

- Younger youth are ages 14-15 (as of 7/1/24).
- Older youth are ages 16-24 (as of 7/1/24).

*Please Note: Males 18 years of age and older must be registered with the Selective Service System to participate in the program.

The deadline to submit applications is 03/01/2024.

Estimated Size of Grant
- Younger Youth will earn up to $700.
- Older Youth will be assigned to work at a pay rate of $16 per hour.

Depending on your attendance and participation, you will receive a weekly stipend.

Term of Contract
- Younger Youth will work 12.5 hours a week for 6 weeks.
- Older Youth will be assigned to work 25 hours per week for six weeks.
