Grants of up to $15,000 to academic scientists or trainees at USA and Canada degree-granting institutions for travel funds associated with biomedical research. Trainees can be post-doctoral candidates or fellows. Grants are intended for domestic or international travel to another lab for collaborations to address biomedical questions or to learn new research techniques. All proposals must be cross-disciplinary.
Food, lodging, airfare, and ground transportation on behalf of awardee are allowed including consumable supplies and materials that are research related to the collaboration between the award recipient and host are covered. In addition, BWF will also allow up to $500 of incidental expenses accrued by the host to be charged to the grant.
Selection is made on the basis of the proposal’s scientific quality of the proposed activities and the career development potential and impact of the collaboration/visit.

Approximately 30–40 grants will be awarded in this cycle.
Up to $15,000; the average grant has traditionally funded at $7,500.
The award period begins June 1, 2019 and ends December 31, 2020. No exceptions or extensions will be approved.
