Grants of $3,000 to Queens, New York individual artists to support the creation of new work in any artistic discipline. First-time applicants must attend an application information session. Funding is intended to support projects that enhance the cultural experience within the borough. New work is defined as work that has not been produced or presented to an audience before.

Project funding is available for:
- Artists working in all disciplines. Project disciplines can include (but are not limited to): Music; Theater; Dance; Film/Video; Literature (including Poetry and Spoken Word); Visual arts (Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture and Site-Specific Installations); Fiber Arts; Folk Arts; Media Arts; Community-Engaged Art; and Multidisciplinary Arts.
- All projects must culminate in an exhibition or presentation in the 2020 calendar year that are accessible and engage the general public of Queens

Grant funds can be used for:
- Artists' fees
- Marketing and publicity costs
- Supplies and materials needed for the execution of the project
- Venue rental for the project (general home/studio rent is not eligible)

Who Can Apply:
- Resident of Queens or those who have a full-time studio in Queens. (PO boxes are not accepted.)
- Applicants that are at least 18 years of age
- Artists working in any discipline - visual, literary, or performing art forms
- Applicants that attend a QAF Information Session
- Unincorporated Artist Collectives or collaborations between multiple artists. If an artist collective or collaboration applies, one Queens-based artist will be the “lead applicant” and will need to fill out an individual application for the collective’s project. Artist collectives can only apply once for the New Work Grant.

Note: Fiscal sponsorship is not required.

Who Cannot Apply:
- Students, full or part-time, either currently enrolled or who will be enrolled in 2020. This includes degree programs and certificate programs.
- Artists who received funding in 2019 for DCA individual artist support (QAF New Work Grant).
- Past recipients who failed to submit a final report or who did not properly credit funding as stipulated in the QAF Cultural Contract.
- Individual Artists applying through any other 2020 QAF grant even through partnerships for organization support.

What Projects New Works Grants Cannot Fund:
- Recreational, rehabilitative, or therapeutic art programs – this includes clowning, magic, culinary arts, and cosmetology.
- Fellowships or scholarships
- Start-up costs for new groups/organizations
- Arts education projects
- Living or general operating expenses
- Equipment
- Acquisitions
- Entertainment costs including openings, receptions, catering, or fundraising
- Out-of-state travel expenses.

First-time applicants must attend a QAF Information Session.

Applicants that have not applied in the past two years are strongly encouraged to attend.

Submission Deadline: October 29, 2019

Matching information:
- An appropriate budget must demonstrate at least 25% of total income coming from diverse sources of outside support.
- The 25% match can include in-kind contributions and monetary contributions.
- The panel will evaluate more favorably project budgets that display a diverse mix of outside support, with a greater emphasis on monetary contributions.

Draft review meetings:
- Applicants that have started drafts can come in for a one-on-one meeting with QCA staff, to review their application before submitting.
- Sign-ups for one-on-ones will open two weeks before the day of the session. QCA will announce when sign-ups are open.
- Spaces are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
