Deadline Date:

Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Fellowships and in-kind support to USA individuals for projects that promote social justice and address challenges related to inequality and climate change. Eligible expenses include project-related costs, including but not limited to, research, conference fees, website development, travel, and living expenses.

The program provides the opportunity to turn an inspired idea that advances social justice into a reality. Fellows also receive hands-on training, resources, and leadership development to scale the impact of their work.

The topic of a Fellow’s project should generally align with the Foundation’s focus on climate change and inequality. It should aim to transform systems and mindsets that hinder progress towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all people, particularly women and people of color. The Foundation is also interested in innovative approaches that cut across topics. For more information on the Foundation's focus areas, see https://nathancummings.org/our-focus/.

Proposed projects might include the creation of a product such as a book or report; a public hearing or presentation; a launch of an initiative or nonprofit organization; an art piece; or other creative work products.

Term of Contract:

Fellows selected in April 2021 will begin the Fellowship term in June 2021. The Program runs through December 2022. The stipend is paid out in two installments over 18 months.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Fellowship Program is an opportunity for individuals. NCF welcomes a diverse pool of applicants representing practitioners in a variety of fields. The Fellowship is designed for emergent leaders in the U.S. who have limited access to institutional philanthropy and whose work is traditionally underfunded.

NCF strongly encourages movement builders, disruptors, and system thinkers from all backgrounds and fields to apply. Applicants should demonstrate a deep understanding and clear analysis of the field in which they work. They should also have a history of success in this field but be positioned to benefit from the Foundation’s support.

Only U.S. residents or citizens whose projects are focused on work within the U.S. and Puerto Rico are eligible for the Fellowship at this time.

The Fellowship program does not fund the following:
- Enrollment for degree or non-degree study at academic institutions, including dissertation research;
- Debt relief;
- The Fellows’ health benefits or taxes owed to the IRS for the grant award; and
- Lobbying activities.
